Unit G Summary Question #3: When does the graph have a slant asymptote? How do you find the equation?

When does a graph have a slant asymptote?
We know when a graph has a slant asymptote if the line is slanted upwards or downwards. it can only exist if the degree on top is ONE BIGGER than the degree on the bottom.

How do you find the equation of the slant asymptote?
To find the equation you must use long division. Your answer for this, except the remainder, becomes the EQUATION, y=mx+b.

*Graphs can sometimes cross the slant asymptote but only towards the middle of the graph, but not at the ends.
